Ciao, bellas! How was everyone's week? Whether you're finishing your first semester or beginning your second, now is the perfect time to revamp your wardrobe with... A NEW VEST! There are so many styles of vests and that's what makes this blog post so manifold. However, today we'll be narrowing in on two of the chicest vest styles for the season: sweater vests and puffer vests. Keep reading to learn not only how to style these vests but also how to pick out the perfect one for your individual wardrobe!
The Sweater Vest Startup
First up, sweater vests. I've always admired sweater vests, especially when they were all the rage last winter. However, it always seemed like too much work to find the perfect sweater vest and then proceed to buy a white collared oxford shirt to wear underneath. I'll be the first to admit that the startup process of wearing sweater vests is extremely difficult. However, once you've acquired all the necessary items and put them together into a cohesive outfit vision, the physical act of wearing a sweater vest is equally rewarding.
To start off the sweater vest process, you'll want to get an idea of the style of sweater vest you're interested in- long, cropped, baggy, tight, neutral, bright, patterned or plain- the options are limitless. My starter sweater vest was a baby pink cable knit one from Brandy Melville. I picked it out in-store and resolved to wear it with jean shorts during the spring and summer. The style of sweater vest you buy will be based on how you want to style it. If you want to go for a city chic vibe, maybe pick out an oversized neutral vest. If you want to go for a young girly vibe, try for something fitted and colorful so you can wear it without a shirt underneath. As always, the best place to look for inspiration is Pinterest. If you're stuck, here are a few ideas below.
This Week's Fit
This Week's Fit is back and better than ever! For this sweater-vest-inspired look, I paired my FAVORITE white collared shirt with a tan cropped sweater vest. I bought this vest for only $13 at Pacsun a couple of days before Black Friday. At that price, I felt compelled to also buy it in pink ( which you can find styled on the CiaoBella Instagram, @ciaobella._).
I paired the vest with some wide-leg side-slit jeans and accessorized it with glasses, a diamond heart chain, and a couple of diamond hoops. The thick gold jewelry takes away from the stuffy sweater vest vibe. Overall, I'm a big fan of this outfit and love to wear it to take my school finals so that I can look and feel smart. (I'm also convinced that it gave me the magical computer skills I needed to pass my Microsoft Excel Certification Exam).
The New and Improved Vest
Puffer vests have been worn casually by people over 40 for eons. I find it so odd, therefore, that people all of a sudden decided that they're no longer old ladyish and are instead modern and stylish. Long story short, sometimes you just have to stop thinking and accept the erratic tendencies of "the fashion world". Puffer vests are one of those things that we shouldn't think too long and hard about.
Last year, we saw an elevation in the ever-trendy black puffer coat. This time, however, they were shinier and cropped-er (I know that's not a word) than ever. So to keep progressing winter fashion, we've all collectively decided to cut the sleeves off our puffer coats and wear them sleeveless instead. Yay!
I hate to say it, but I actually don't hate the look of vests over a nice quarter zip with yoga pants underneath. It's sleek, transitional, and great for layering. Luckily, puffer vests are also a lot easier to style than sweater vests. Styling one is as easy as picking out a matching sweatshirt or sweater then- voila!- you'll look like all the Instagram fashion influencers. Check out the picture above to see how one of my favorite fashion bloggers, (@lovedbyrileyb) styled her bright green puffer vest with a colorful sweatsuit. This outfit serves as a reminder that vests don't always have to be neutrally toned to be on-trend.
Item of Choice
Yes! Item of choice is back as well! Today's item of choice is about as CiaoBella verified a vest can get. I've been eyeing this light pink vest from Pacsun for quite a few days now. It's oversized, colorful, and (most importantly) ON SALE! I would style this with some flare lounge pants, a sweatshirt, pink sneakers, and (of course) pink jewelry. Click the link below to shop. PS, it also comes in other colors.
